The introduction of the halo was the first stage of a planned rollout that would see the device adopted in all FIA-sanctioned open wheel series by 2020. In 2018, the championship saw the introduction of a new cockpit protection device, known as the "halo". In the Constructors' Championship, Mercedes finished 84 points ahead of Ferrari, with Red Bull Racing- TAG Heuer in third, 152 points behind Ferrari.
